The 2025 short drama Good Luck to Me is pure platinum. A couple divorce after 20 years. Once the paper is signed, they are lost for words. The way that this is presented sparks our imagination. We believe that loss of communicative skills has been around awhile.
Good Luck to Me Story
A couple dissolve their marriage. They have been a couple for 20 years and are now trying to come to terms with this new reality.
The Cast

Timothy J Cox is Him.

Heather Bayles is Her.
Destiny Elexis is the Marriage Dissolution Arbitrator.
Let’s Talk
This is co-written by Cox and Bayles and directed by Maya Ahmed Good Luck to Me sings. Films like this are why I love short films. In just under 8 minutes, we know the entire 20 years of this couple.
The short exchanges. The tired acquiescence and the stunned feeling of a race won and lost. He is the verbal one, she is as wife, now ex, used to “going along to get along.”
Thomas Angeletti makes the most of every shot as cinematographer here. Each frame shows the distance between the man and the woman. A distance that has clearly been a part of their lives for a long time.

This is, perhaps, proof positive that too many “cooks” do not a bad broth make.*
There is nothing that jars in Good Luck to Me. Unless, of course, it is the complete bewilderment of the two main characters.
Good Luck to Me Works

Take the dinner scene. He is approaching this “last meal” with determination. After heading for the best place in town, Cox’s character means to eat every last bit. He is so consumed, pun intended, with finishing it all that he even asks for his now ex-wife’s portions.
Once again, she agrees. Using that almost monosyllabic dialogue as response. Her one word answers are not hers alone. The ex husband also likes one word exchanges. Theirs is not just a tale of poor communication, it is one of minimal communication.
Through our entire time with this couple, we understand that after their 20 years, they really have no connection left. Hence the loss of words and the short meaningful exchanges. They may just be shell shocked by the turn of events. But we don’t think so.
The Verdict
Good Luck to Me earns a solid 5 stars. This tour de force of under 10 minutes shows so much by utilizing so little. Bayles and Cox do more with facial expressions and movement that most actors can achieve with dialogue heavy exchanges. Tim tells us that the movie is soon starting its festival run. Catch it if you can and see how short films should be done.
Bravo.
