Episode two of Sweetpea sees Rhiannon getting better at the old stab em routine as she takes out “Chop Chop” from the hospital. The overlooked and miserable girl from episode one is spreading her murderous wings and starting down that serial road.

In earnest.

The story so far

The killing by the canal moves Rhiannon into a series of events. She is driven by fear and guilt to search out the identity of her victim. Sweetpea learns that Ryan, the guy she stabbed to death, was not angel. He was, in fact, just another bully.

Before that though, she realizes a new calm and confidence until realizing that the incriminating evidence from the night before is still hanging around. Rapidly cleaning up the bloody mess, she gets an offer for her father’s business.

At work she sabotages Jeff’s research and steals his story. AJ, the new junior reporter, helps her to look up Ryan’s backstory. Her goal? To see if he deserved to die.

Norman is so impressed at the receptionists moxie that he invites her to the office pub party. Once there, Rhiannon bumps into the police investigating the murder and “chop chop.” The obnoxious man at the hospital where her father died.

It turns out that he is just as annoying and rude outside hospital. Chop Chop and his interaction with the barmaid seals his fate. Once Rhiannon realizes who the man is, she decides to remove him from the picture.

Murder equals confidence

Sweetpea exhibits a newfound confidence after killing the “piss artist” by the canal. She moves into a new realm of existence, one where she makes herself be seen and heard. Rhiannon even sings Karaoke at the pub celebration.

The only person who still intimidates the young woman is her school bully; Julia. A realtor that her sister has chosen to sell the family home. At a meeting in the house, Julia instantly reduces Rhiannon to that bullied schoolgirl.

By the end of this episode, we feel that Julia’s days are numbered.

the cast

Ella Purnell is Rhiannon Lewis

Nicôle Lecky is Julia

Calam Lynch is AJ

Tim Samuels is Philf

Jeremy Swift is Norman

Dustin Demri-Burns is Jeff

Sweetpea moving forward

It is clear that Julia is on Sweetpea’s list. Moving forward, she may need to get a little more practise in. The grown version of her school bully still renders her pretty much helpless.

This British export still hits all the right notes. Ella Purnell continues to rock it as the murderous receptionist. Lecky is the woman we love to hate and Lynch may be on a limited run here. He may learn that bit too much.

Verdict?

Sweetpea airs Fridays on starz. If you have not already done so, head on over and watch this splendid bit of entertainment from across the pond. This is a SKY production, which pretty much insures a certain amount of quality. Do yourself a favour and check it out.
