On the Reals should have been the title to episode nine of Bad Monkey. It was all about the “reals” this week. *Oh and by the way, the episode cliffhanger ending was so satisfying/overdue.*
Kudos for the recap: “There’s a monkey.”
There’s a Storm coming
Gracie’s curse is working like gangbusters; she just is not really aware of this fact yet. Things do change though, remember that cliffhanger ending? Everything comes to a head this week, not just Hurricane Mel.
It’s all about believing
Yancy and Rosa believe that both their plans are working: Neville and Dawnie as well as Nick and Eve. Ya Ya believes that she has found a replacement for Gracie. Gracie still believes that escape is the only answer. Bonnie still believes in her power to control her own destiny. *And it seems she is right.*
Nick and Eve
This power couple are losing their control over everything. This may well be down to the Dragon Queen’s curse but this has some help from Yancy and Rosa. Eve throws Rosa to Egg, the narrator did say the picture was a problem.
Neville and Yancy run into Gracie, AKA Dragon Queen, AKA Mystery Lady. She tips off the cop that Rosa is in trouble. He rushes to Nick and Eve’s place to save her. Neville arrives in time to help his friend.

Gracie
The former Dragon Queen meets her momma. She learns that she is the magic. This information serves her well for the final confrontation. Despite stealing Nick’s watch earlier, the island is indeed keeping her in place. Just like Ya Ya told her.
Meanwhile
After a tense game of stick versus shotgun, Nick loses and Yancy gets away. *More kudos here: The gun line. We won’t relay it but you will find it funny. (Or not, it may just be me.)*
Standing on the dock of the bay
Rosa gives Yancy an ultimatum. Gracie returns to her roots for that final confrontation with Eve. Nick may well bleed out and Yancy may have to do battle with Eve and the Mystery Lady.
The wrap up
For a show that kept me doubting its validity for so long, Bad Monkey has turned into a good un. “On the Reals,” sorry, “You Really Don’t Want to Kill This Scrumptious Little Puppy” as a penultimate episode really rocks.
The pacing, the music, the plot, everything comes together brilliantly. This may well be the best episode of Bad Monkey yet. The only downer is the green screen shot of the pilot outside his plane.
*Kudos: (Last one I promise.) The final meeting between Gracie and Eve.*
Bad Monkey is an Apple TV production. New episodes stream on Wednesdays.
