Episode 8 of Bad Monkey starts with the world’s best, to date, irritated recap (Tom Nowicki). At the start of the episode Yancy gets shot up, from Russia with love.

The story so far

His old pal Petrov is responsible for this messy assault and he calls off his dogs. *Hence the allusion to “love.”* Yancy asks for proof that his fugitives tagged him for murder.

It turns out, however, that Nick (Rob Delaney)and Eve (Meredith Hagner) are not responsible for this act of hostility from Russia. His “douchebag” neighbour Evan (Alex Moffat) called out the dogs this time.

Bonnie (Michelle Monaghan) learns that no one in Oklahoma cares about the old “sex scandal” case and is released.

Neville (Ronald Peet) continues to spy on Nick and Eve. He relays that the former Dragon Queen; Grace (Jodie Turner-Smith) and Egg (David St. Louis) are a team now. The new power couple have joined forces with the Striplings.

Karma is a b*tch

While Yancey and Rosa (Natalie Martinez) continue to bond things are heating up. Bonnie returns and blows up Evan’s house. This has to be the best moment of the series thus far. Even better than introducing former mobsters from Russia. The “slo-mo” stroll visual of Bonnie leaving the destroyed architectural debacle is brilliant.

*Okay, we know this is all green screen but damn! This one rocks.*

After Bonnie’s arsonist trick, Rosa and Yancey go to Andros. Nick hears from Caitlyn (Charlotte Lawrence) who is setting her dad up. Gracie calls Ya-Ya (L. Scott Caldwell) who reminds her that she really did have the magic.

Yancey and Gracie

Careful what you eat

Eve and Nick head to the conch place where Rosa tried her “sales” technique on K.J. (Bob Clendenin). The bad “selfie” taken on the day hangs on the wall, awaiting unhelpful discovery.

Departures

Neville is told that he must leave his temporary home. Gracie is set to leave the islands off the proceeds of Nick’s watch. Bonnie has left Yancy’s life to be in prison and Rosa could soon be on her way as well.

In the meantime, before all these departures, Hurricane Mel is coming.

Wrap up

Bonnie now has the accountability that she longed for. Gracie, formerly known as the Dragon Queen, learns that being on the outside of that magic circle is a lonely existence. K.J. may be about to learn all about the price of betrayal. Evan may yet learn what being in prison is like. And Rosa may find out that “being bad” for the right reasons can be deadly.

The Verdict

Bad Monkey continues to entertain. There is some fine “mystery” stuff happening right here. Everything is still up in the air and the hurricane may just stir things up that bit too much. The show is an Apple TV production and airs each Wednesday.

Head on over and check this bad monkey out.
