So Bad Monkey featured a recap for it’s last episode. Really chaps? Come on, the show ain’t that deep. Despite feeling like a weird knockoff of Death and Other Details. A Bad Monkey recap mid-season, feels odd and a little desperate.

It’s more like backstory

In this episode; titled, somewhat appropriately: Nothing’s Wrong with It, I Just Don’t Need It Anymore, is all really about backstory. We learn all about Eve and Nick, as well as Israel O’Peele. And of course all about Andrew Yancy and his fall from grace.

The first time.

For those watching Bad Monkey we know that Yancy used his car to push Bonnie’s (Michelle Monaghan) husband into the drink in the first episode. That got him into even more trouble. But it was, we know now, not the first time.

*A side note here: It is nice to see Scott Glenn in this one. He plays Yancy’s dad. This long serving character actor never fails to deliver. Glenn rocks in Bad Monkey as well.*

We see Yancey meet Bonnie and watch Eve work Nick around her little finger.

Izzy, aka Israel (Zach Braff) surgically removes Nick’s left arm and then has to chop on it. He needs to make it look like a boating accident.

Eve still cannot produce tears on demand.

if you give a mouse a cookie

Eve teaches Nick, via a reference about the kid’s book: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie about potential blackmailers. The young man who helped to pull off his death scam wants a bit more money. Cue the young man’s death at the hands of Nick.

And like the child’s story, Nick and Eve decide one death is not enough. He kills his old pal and business partner Israel after seeing Yancy’s business card. Izzy then signs his own death warrant after telling Nick he’s going to tell the “food cop” everything.

Nick takes that cookie.

And.

Heather from Weather gets her own cookie. From Eve.

Yancy and co

Yancy and Rosa (Natalie Martinez) share a popsicle and talk shop. Then Rosa moves the relationship up a tier. Yancy learns that the morgue is not as disturbing as he thought.

Eve finally learns to cry on cue.

Yancy gets jumped by Nick.

Bad Monkey is starting to pick up as it seems Mendez may come after Yancy for the murder of Izzy.

The Verdict

Bad Monkey may surpass Death and Other Details. Time will tell. Perhaps next week we will learn about Bonnie’s entire back story. The series streams on Wednesdays on Apple + TV.
