Italian Turtles is a retro review. It is 2019 and comic book geeks are in for the win. This imaginative look at just how the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles got their start in a pitch meeting is funny.
Vin Nucatola writes, directs and edits this comedic look at pitching a new idea to potential buyers/producers. Timothy J Cox is the corporate head who has two sidekicks. The three listen and do not get the concept at all.
Brainstorming
Nick Piacente and Chris D’Amato are the two young men who want to bring greater attention to their product. Their mutant turtles know karate and are sewer dwelling heroes.
It is not going well, but, the panel of bigwigs at the other end of that long table start brainstorming with the pair. Bj Gruber and Janel Koloski are the two assistants to John Handy.
Cox has the ability to bring an air of reality to all his characters. He is, to say the least, one of my favorite actors. He knows the ropes of acting and shows it with the ease of his performances.
Handy and his hench “people” dislike the idea of slow/grungy tortoises on the run. The idea of a rat leader really puts them off. They seem to go off the idea completely.
A delivery of pizza turns the tide.
Winning
The executives actively get involved. The idea the boys are selling starts to gain momentum. Even the secretary gets involved.
*Side note: The secretary played by Mary Ortega has a minimal amount of time onscreen. She knocks it out of the park though. Kudos to this actor who made the most of her part. #NoSmallParts
All the participants give this their all. Moving from disinterest to complete, and excited, acceptance. Nucatola has managed to put this all together brilliantly and it is a pleasure to watch.
And Now
This feel good film from 2019 (Italian Turtles) at just over nine minutes it generates a good story. We find ourselves rooting for the poor guys doing their unusual pitch. It goes to prove that the right menu means success.
