Alexandrea Meyer, writes, directs and stars in the 2024 film Love You Forever. This short film kind of sneaks up on you. There are hints, though, that not all is well in this world of newborns and anxiety. The glimpses of irrationality are deftly presented. They are sparingly put out there. Just enough to interrupt your viewing . Almost suddenly the tale takes on different meaning.

Let’s Talk Love You Forever
There is a splendid bit of misdirection going on here. The signs that something is amiss are pretty apparent. We think and Postpartum Depression immediately springs to mind. We then discard it. Given that the new baby always cries that loud, almost angry, cry. Every single time. We expect things to go South any minute.
However, Shannon springs into action immediately and never loses her rag with her now very upset and loud offspring.
The film raises the bar for oblique hints. Meyer runs herself, and us, through the wringer here. I find myself second guessing throughout. Odd things strike the viewer and we pause. It is the very nature of this presentation that this film stays in our mind long after watching it.
Cast is King/Queen
Everyone here knocks this out of the part. Every single player convinces us, that this is real. These performances, combined with the script and direction, feel real.
It Works
Everything about Love Your Forever works beautifully. The DP Olivia Kimmel lovingly paints each frame with care. The tight shots are almost excruciatingly tight. The editing, by Marshall Granger is just as tight. So much so we almost miss some of these hints.
Special Effects and the film’s score, Noemi Torres and Hugo Fabry respectively, makes Love You Forever a haunting short masterpiece. If you can watch this one unemotionally, then you are a better man than I, mate. Meyer pulls off an almost effortless chore of directing herself.
The Verdict
Love You Forever is an award winning short film. *Meyer won Best Performance 2024 and the film was nominated for Best Film in the same year.* This is a 5 star effort all round. It is an excellent example of how short films should be made. Keep an eye out for both Alexandrea Meyer and her work.
