The 2025 action film The Last Gunfight is different. For one thing, even the English speaking actors sound dubbed. This is an odd one, as the whole thing feels like a foreign film. The plot feels like a rip off of the 2009 dark comedy The Tournament. That bit of weird and wonderful action was, at least fun. Plus it starred Ving Rhames and Robert Carlyle.
The Last Gunfight has Jon Voight who appears to be bringing back his Mickey Donovan character from the dead. There are certainly enough similarities here to feel that the actor borrowed his old pal. Voight even talks like Mickey. In other words, he phoned this one in.

The Last Gunfight BTS
James Bamford directs this one. The screenplay by J.D. Zeik, story by Steven Paul is a jumbled mess. The film, somewhat amazingly, feels like a Spaghetti Western. All dubbed dialogue and odd camerawork. The stunts work well though. The fight coordinator/stunt coordinator Hristo Dimitrov does well with the action sequences. In fact, all the fight scenes mesh well. There are no “clear misses” or odd moments of gun play here.
The problem with the film is that it jars. Nothing moves naturally in the scenes. Both those in the betting area and the “killing area” looks and feel far from right.
Problems
The Last Gunfight is an odd one. The story itself confuses. The plot meanders from one scene to the next with no real cohesion. When the film ended, I was totally surprised at the outcome. Nothing really set the audience up for the result of the contest.
The film is a garish mishmash of action. As I said before, the film feels like a homage, or rip off, of The Tournament. That film was entertaining, although it too was a little confusing at times.
The Last Gunfight could have been so much better, it could have learned from the Scott Mann effort.
The Verdict
The Last Gunfight barely earns 2.5 stars. It is a garbled and irritating mess. It is available to rent on Prime, at around 6 dollars a pop. If you really feel the need to watch this drivel, wait until it can be streamed for free.
