Bad Monkey: Episode 7 is about, to a degree, cat people and murder. It is also about “owning up.” The main characters are all moving forward, or in at least one case, backward, but the episode end sees things changing for everyone.
The story so far
In no Discernable Order
Yancey gets his badge and rank of detective back. Mendez shoots Ro. Mendez is finally arrested. Rosa takes a break from her job. The Dragon Queen resigns and Eve just loves Gracie’s skin.
It turns out that Detective Mendez is just obsessed about his cat. So obsessed in fact that he risks arrest to visit his sickly feline. Somewhat predictably, he is arrested.
Bonnie realizes, with a little help, that she needs to pay for her sexual abuse crimes.
Narrator Tom Nowicki still gets the “grumpiest narrator ever” award. He manages to almost effortlessly express his displeasure at the odious task of revisiting previous episodes.
BAd Monkey
The show moves on to a slow realization that everyone must own their crimes and bad behaviour. Gracie, AKA the Dragon Queen learns, from Eve of all people, that her masquerade as an evil witch is over. Egg is happy with this new turn of events.
Rosa, after coming into perform an autopsy on a drowned six year old boy, realises that she too needs to move on.
Yancy learns that there is a price to pay for his badge, one that leaves a bad taste in his mouth. Neville does the right thing but he is still trying to get his land back.
YaYa says goodbye to the Dragon Queen and hello to a new electric scooter. Meanwhile, the monkey placates the older woman in her grief.
Murder?
The episode ends with Yancey and his father trying to figure out what to do with Cody. Outside the beachside bungalow, men approach the house with semi-automatic rifles.
The wrap up
Things may be left up in the air on Bad Monkey but murder seems to be right around the corner. Despite the lack of new bodies in this episode, things look downright dodgy for next week’s installment.
*Side note: I’m not putting the cast list up. We all know who everyone is and there are no real important new characters showing up. Well, apart from the new FBI director Rhodes (played by Lauren O’Quinn) someone we may see more of later?
And was it just me, or did anyone else expect Yancy to chuck his next door neighbour into the drink? Answers on a postcard please…
Bad Monkey streams on Apple TV with new episodes airing on Wednesdays.
