‘The Strain’ Episode Three: Missing Bodies and Damage Control

Episode three of The Strain begins with Thomas Eichorst, The Master’s “mouthpiece” putting his face on; literally, it then goes on to discuss the missing bodies from the morgue and the CDC attempting damage control on the entire situation. This opening is quite impressive. The vampire, noseless, earless, and hairless puts on fake replacements and makeup to give himself a more human appearance and against a backdrop of classical music, the scene is almost mesmerizing.

The Strain Episode Two: Fet Makes His Entrance and Palmer Meets the Master

In The Strain, episode two, the exterminator Vasiliy Fet makes his entrance on the series and Eldritch Palmer finally meets the Master. Thomas Eichorst, the lead vampire’s emissary, visits Abraham Setrakian while he is in jail. Gus drops off the big box, and the van it is in, but once the two begin moving and making noises, he leaves in a hurry.

The Strain: ‘The Box’ a Gripping Guillermo Adaptation (Recap/Review)

The FX summer horror offering of The Strain, first episode titled The Box, is a gripping Guillermo del Toro adaptation of the trilogy’s first book. The show seems to do a good job of following its source material and as a special treat to the horror-fan, Andrew Divoff (Wishmaster 1997) plays an uncredited cameo as an Air Traffic Control supervisor in the pilot episode.

In 1975 Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot hit bookstores and created a new dose of Bram Stoker-ish horror, now Guillermo del Toro, along with Chuck Hogan, have updated vampire lore with The Strain which has been adapted and will premiere on FX; a dash of horror on the small screen. Just as King’s story looked at a vampire invasion of a small Maine town, Guillermo’s and Hogan’s story takes huge strokes across a similar canvas and shows New York being taken over as the first step to a vampiric “final solution” which will eradicate the human race.

Two of the most promoted television shows on the small screen right now deal with an apocalyptic theme this summer, The Last Ship and The Strain. Both these programs deal, albeit very differently, with the possible extinction of mankind. Although it could be said that each show has a different sort of pandemic which threatens the survival of the human race.
