A Trophy For Little Old Me

Wordpress trophyI do love how WordPress sets these somewhat eclectic targets (for lack of a better word) which when reached by the blogger gives them an automatic trophy. The first thought that goes through my mind is ‘Wow, a trophy? For little old me?’ *By the by, a single quotation mark by some authors is meant to convey thought versus speech anyone disagree with this method? Just curious, answers on a postcard please or conversely you can tell me via the comment section below.* Anyway, as shown by the image above, I now have reached 1,337, with a “real” total of 1,339 followers on my blog.

Cue fireworks, confetti and cheering, even if it is only my hoarse voice you can hear, in wild celebration. I do celebrate these milestone events, albeit rather quietly, since these follower counts mean that slowly but surely, I am building up a core group that like my meandering messages.

Here is where I insist that you give yourself a pat on the back for having such great taste! Seriously, it does mean a lot that either some of you have come back or others have enjoyed my ramblings enough to pay me the ultimate compliment. Thanks to both types of folks and to those who fall into neither camp.

For those still “on the fence” about my writing, that is fine too. I’ve not published anything yet, but I will. In this day and age of self publishing if I cannot get picked up by a publisher when I’ve finished, I’ll do it on my own. I know this is now the norm and quite successful for some folks, like the Winner Twins who I have met, interviewed and still interact with now and then. *On a side note, two nicer young ladies you will never meet and their work is entertaining and good.*

For those who have been here for awhile, thanks for being patient. I’ve veered off the path, most notably working for the content mill and sweatshop GLV where I had no time to devote to my baby. (But I did manage to attend some geeky type cons and meet some dynamite actors and in that aspect had the time of my life.) Now I am back and casting my hook around to see what other writing opportunities are out there.

Thanks to you all; I know that regardless of where my laptop and I end up there are folks who like my writing and will stop by to read and comment. Even though I do not get out and about as much as I used to, and those of you with your own blogs will know what I mean, but as soon as the Internet issue is sorted and I learn to be more organized, I will be more visible at other blog sites. I promise.

Till then, I remain humbly overawed that there are that many people out there who like my work. I think you all are the best. Thanks and I raise my metaphorical glass to you. Cheers and all the best.

BOOM Upside My Head, Versatile Blogger Award!

20130411-190623

Whilst I was reeling from getting THREE nominations for the Epically Awesome Award for Epic Awesomeness, Dave over at  Last Road Reviews pummelled me upside the head with a Versatile Blogger Award.

Ouch! I didn’t see that one coming!

As with all awards in the Blogging verse, this one comes with rules. Since I’ve taken days to respond to Dave’s nomination (Sorry Dave) I’m going to expedite this via the “lazy man’s” way. I’m going to copy said rules from his post. Have I mentioned lately how lazy I am?

Versatile Blogger Award – Rules for those who wish to participate

1. In a post on your blog, nominate 10 fellow bloggers for The Versatile Blogger Award; and link to them.
2. In the same post, add the Versatile Blogger Award.
3. In the same post, thank the blogger who nominated you in a post with a link back to their blog.
4. In the same post, share 10 completely random pieces of information about yourself.
5. In the same post, include this set of rules.
6. Inform each nominated blogger of their nomination by posting a comment on each of their blogs.

My randomly selected nominees are:

  1. Claratsi Movie Review
  2. RobinsRealm Blog
  3. FOXXIECINNAMON’S Blog
  4. readful things blog
  5. Bad Horror, Good Times
  6. Roll on some movies!
  7. Film As We Know It
  8. Kevin’s Movies
  9. hypersonic55
  10. Reel Ex-Stream

My ten unknown (probably not by now though) facts are:

  1. I snore.
  2. I love golf but cannot afford to play it.
  3. I am just breaking into the world of freelance writing.
  4. I’m on the staff as a writer for web magazine Rogue Cinema which focusses on Independent film.
  5. I am a host for Tommorrow Comes Media by Seventh Star Press and my first event will be May 16th.
  6. I’m going to be acting in a film by Natasha Harmer  called Once Bitten, Twice Shy.
  7. I am writing short stories at the minute to become a (hopefully) published collection.
  8. The first novel I’m writing is going to be a western (cross genre).
  9. I have 7 plus scars on my body, most from surgery!
  10. I have quit smoking, but, now appear to be hooked on the bloody nicotine gum!

And that, as they say, is that. I’ll leave you now to enjoy your Sunday lunches, trips to the seaside and pints at the pub. But I’ll remind everybody that my choices, as always, are completely random and chosen from the lovely folks who follow my blog already. In my mind you are all deserving of an award…I’ll just have to think one up!

Thanks again Dave!

Cheers!
Cheers!

Best Moment Award

Best-Moment-Award

I owe a heartfelt thank you to Sandra over at quirkybooks who nominated me based on my blog post – 50,000 Plus! Thanks Guys. This is the first time I’ve received this award and I am, to put it plainly, chuffed to bits (in American English that means damned happy). So  again, Sandra, thanks!

I also owe a gesture of gratitude to the kind folks over at Moment Matters who started this whole thing in the first place. They’ve even made up an award logo for the recipients to paste on their wall. It is the one at the top of this post and it is very impressive looking.

The words and music that accompany this award are below:

Awarding the people who live in the moment,
The noble who write and capture the best in life,
The bold who reminded us what really mattered –
Savoring the experience of quality time.

Pretty nice, I think. As with all awards that are bandied about in the WordPress Blogging community there are rules. These are listed below and since this is my first time winning this award, I hope everyone will forgive me if I muck the process up!

Rules:

Winners repost this completely with their acceptance speech. This speech may be written or video taped (vlogged)

Winners have the privilege of awarding the next recipients. The re-post should have a new set of people/blogs that are worthy of this award and then you have to tell the new folks that you’ve chosen.

Resources:

(I’ve included these as they were in Sandra’s post and any help is good help, if you need it)

  • What makes a good acceptance speech?
    • Gratitude. Thank the people who helped you along the way
    • Humor. Keep us entertained and smiling
    • Inspiration. Make your story touch our lives
  • Get an idea from the great acceptance speeches, compiled in MomentMatters.com/Speech
  • Display the award’s badge on your blog/website, downloadable in MomentMatters.com/Award

Acceptance Speech:

I accept this award with gratitude and heartfelt appreciation.

For any person who takes the time to look at my blog, I am truly grateful.

For every person that likes my blog, I am thankful.

When a person leaves a comment on my blog, I am inspired to continue blogging.

For each person who interacts with me, I am elated.

For any person who Follows me, my face lights up with pleasure.

For every blogger who shares their knowledge, wisdom and thoughtfulness, I am blessed to be in your company.

Every moment in life is precious, so make sure you do everything you can to cherish and enjoy it.

*I have used the acceptance speech from Sandra’s post as it is damn near perfect. I would only add that my inspiration comes from within and without and my urge to share comes from your views and “Likes” and comments. This community and all who stop by, rock.*

The winners for the Best Moment Award are:

Serendipity

Films and Things

For Henry

terry1954

And that is that. An incredibly short list I know, I follow a huge amount of blogs. The ones I have chosen have inspired me “outside” my box. In other words they’ve touched a part of me and my thought process a bit more deeply than usual. I feel what they are saying. These are the folks who have affected me one way or another by one or more posts.

I will apologise now if any of you feel left out. I have many wonderful followers and it pains me when I have to choose some over others in these things. But such is life and I’m trying to play by the rules here. (at least I hope I am)

You will also notice that I’ve chosen non-film related blogs for my winners. As much as I love film and can talk/write about it till the cows come home, this award isn’t about film or film related things. It’s about life and living the moment. My winners are doing that.

The last part of this Award process is the instruction to share this with your followers and to tweet your “success” with the hash tagged  #MomentMatters.

Congratulations to all my winners and I want you to know that you’ve all written things that have touched me. Deeply.

I’m Fabulous? Oh, My Blog is…

Well three whole days after the fact, I’ve found out that the lovely Angie over at The Daily Hottentots has gone and given me the Fabulous Blog ribbon! It is awarded to ‘deserving’ bloggers and I am humbled by the presentation of the award. Not to mention grateful as all get out. I just realized that the ‘country boy’ in me comes out when I’m excited. Hmmm.

Right, as with other awards in the blogging world, there are a few things that I have to do now to show my gratitude. A sort of penance if you will, which I think is only fair. So here are the ‘requirements’ in chronological order.

1. Thank the blogger who gave you the ribbon and share a link back to their awarding blog.

Done in the first line of my first paragraph. *Gee I guess I am fabulous after all!* 😉

2.  Name 5 Fabulous moments in your life.

My son’s birth.

My daughters birth.

Seeing my1989 American television commercial on YouTube.

Attending the 2008 Versaille London O2 concert with my daughter.

Having both my kids together for the first time ever, last year.

3. Name 5 things you love.

My two kids (kids?? Ones in his thirties and the other is in her twenties!)

Movies.

Video games.

Acting.

Writing.

4. Name 5 things you hate.

Judgemental people.

Hypocrites.

Racists.

Homophobia.

Child Abuse.

5. Pass the award to 5 deserving bloggers.

Rather unsurprisingly my picks for deserving bloggers are all film buffs like myself. Firstly I’d like to give kudos to Christopher over at  truemistersix he is one of the few people who comment with regularity on my little posts and he always has something interesting to say. He is another film fan who does excellent posts on film.

Second up is Eric over at The Warning sign, Eric is another film fan and he does reviews of films, games and other sundry things.

Third is J.P. over at jpfmovies another celluloid devotee who does great posts on film.

Fourth up is Janet over at popcorndinner another film buff who loves to draw parallels between life and film.

And finally, Fifth but not by any means last, is John over at WRITTEN IN BLOOD  a lover of all things horror related who does some great posts.

So that’s it friends and neighbours, my fabulous five bloggers picked and linked. Now all that’s really left to say is, thanks again Angie for this award, you so totally ROCK!  😀

Really, It’s an Honour To Be Nominated…

I woke up this morning and did what I always do, I rushed down to my laptop to see how many views I’d gotten whilst in the land of Nod.

*Sad, I know, but such is the life I lead.*

I found out that John, fellow blogger and ‘followee’ had nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. After scraping the sleep from my eyes, I shot back a quick comment of thanks. I then read his latest post,  Another Award and I Can Still Keep My Humility and realised that this was going to require a little ‘work’ on my part.

So making a very strong coffee I decided, between sips, to still be honoured by the nomination, despite the fact that it required labour and (God, the irony) thinking.

So, firstly I have to thank John for the nomination *bit of explanation required here, every time I hear the phrase ‘nominated for’ I think of the Academy Awards* and then following the rules I have to nominate ten more Bloggers and link to their sites.

**Is it just me or is this starting to feel like a ‘chain’ nomination??**

1. Creature with the Atom Brain

2. Ghost Cities

3. Myteensavers’s Blog

4. 3teensmom

5. True Mister Six

6. Bucket List Publications

7. J.P.’s I’m Outta Here Movie Thoughts

8. while ( aboutMe < Mathf.Infinity ) { … }

9.  Bridgette Gallagher

10. Renard Moreau

Wow, that was tough. I like all the Bloggers that I follow and it was really difficult to narrow the list to just ten. Sorry, if you got missed! Okay, checking my ‘must-do’ list…Right here is the award:

Of course next up is the all important thank you to John of  jmount43  with a link back to his site. Thanks, John! Seriously, I get stupidly pleased, excited and happy if I am ever nominated for anything, dude, you’ve made my day.

Now for the rules part:

Last and definitely least I have to inform you,  friends and neighbours, of ten things about me:

1. I have a natural tendency to be a smart-ass.

2. My favourite meal is foot, it must be because I’m constantly shoving the damn thing in my mouth.

3. I have been married twice…and divorced twice.

4. I once auditioned for Leon Vitali, Stanley Kubrik’s right hand man for the part played eventually by Alan Cumming in Eyes Wide Shut.

5. I am addicted to video games and films, both tend to equal lot’s of late nights.

6. I am becoming addicted to Blogging.

7. I have an eighteen inch scar running right up the middle of my back.

8. I always wanted to have “any identifying marks or scars” so #7 helped me out there.

9. I was once addicted to so many pain pills that it took me two years to get off all of them.

10. As a rule, when I am angry, one-liners shoot from my mouth like a verbal machine gun barrage.

And that’s it, except for the, letting my nominees know that I nominated them via comments. Which I will do as soon as this is published!
