Channel Zero Candle Cove: Want to See Something Cool? (Recap/Review)

Channel Zero: Candle Cove - Season 1

Channel Zero: Candle Cove managed to keep the creepy down to a minimum in “Want to See Something Cool” but is was not unimpressive as The Tooth-Child makes several appearances.  So too does the puppet Jaw Bones whose laugh would give any child nightmares.  This episode follows on last week‘s where Gary takes Mike in for questioning.

They go past the turnoff to the jail. Gary takes his childhood friend to a deserted house for an intense Q&A session outside the law. Tim and Daphne, who  were both at Mike’s welcome home dinner, show up to ask questions.

Out of the two who join later, Tim believes Mike killed all the kids and Daphne remembers Candle Cove and the images still haunt her as a grown up in her nightmares.

While the questioning goes on, Marla is concerned about Mike and goes to the sheriff’s office to see him. Amy reveals that she has not seen Gary or Mike. Later, Marla talks with Gary’s wife, Jess about the murders and her concern about Mike.

Jessica also remembers kid’s TV show and she talks about being in touch with Mike through emails.  She tells Marla that they suddenly stopped. (Obviously this was during his mental breakdown.) Jess realizes that she knows where Gary and Mike may be when she checks and finds her letting key missing for the deserted house.

Amy is stopped by an upset woman who claims children are hurting someone. The deputy approaches the kids, who are stabbing something on the ground and they stop. Amy sees that the object  is a science class aid. Laughing she starts to talk to the children who suddenly run off.

Back at the Q&A session Tim gets irate, his brother was the bully who broke Eddie’s finger, and shoots Mike in the shoulder. Gary struggles with Tim and takes his gun.

Marla, Jessica and Amy arrive within seconds of each other.  They enter the house to find Mike on the floor with a gunshot wound. Amy sees Gary with his drawn weapon and forces him to hand it over.

Tim walks through the woods and sees a group of giggling kids. Daphne cuts through the forest and talks to Mrs. Booth. Both of them die. Tim and the hands of his dead big brother and Daphne from having a hook ripped through her throat by Mrs. Booth.

Candle Cove is back and it is influencing more than the children.  Mrs. Booth, the science teacher may be a Pied Piper for these kids. A sort of real-life emissary for the evil cartoon.

Mike tells the trio questioning him that Candle Cove did things to Eddie. It gave his twin the power to control others. It was Eddie who killed the other children and he stopped him.

In a flashback we see how Gene Hazel dies.  First Eddie makes him do things and then forces the bully to offer up two of his own teeth.  The boy then goes to Candle Cove by falling over the cliff at the Crows Nest.

After Mike is released from the hospital he is visited by The Tooth-Child twice. Once in his dreams and once in Marla’s.  In New York, Mike’s daughter Lily leaves the house. Later she turns up outside of Marla’s house in Iron Hill.

As he rushes outside to Lily, The Tooth-Child watches from an upstairs window.

Those puppets from the cove  are still disturbing. Jaw Bone is terrifying on a completely different level from the mysterious tooth creature.  The new shows are being watched by a new generation and they all seem to be following instructions from Mrs. Booth as well as the animated program.

The science teacher’s involvement raises a question. Was there an adult involved 28 years ago?

There are other questions. Mike has now altered his story. He told Marla that he killed Eddie. The new improved story says that Eddie killed the other four children and then disappeared. So which one is the truth? Is it a mixture of both stories?

Clearly Mike stopped Eddie, there is that flashback to his twin having a hook shoved into his chest, but “officially” he and Marla are stepping back from that kitchen confession  from last week.

Now,  two of the “kids” from 28 years ago have died. Does this mean that Candle Cove is finishing what it started way back then. Were all the kids supposed to die?

If that is the case then Jessica and Mike are in danger.

Channel Zero: Candle Cove airs Tuesdays on SyFy. Tune in and catch this goosebump inducing mini-series,  but be warned; this is a show to watch with the lights on.

no, they both changed they story being told to Amy so Mike wouldn’t be brought in for questioning/arrest/prison/some other screwed up interrogation thing.
