12 Years a Slave Defeats Gravity to Make Oscar History

12 Years a Slave defeated Gravity to make Oscar history as the first film made by a black director to win Best Picture in the the 86 years that the Academy Awards have existed. Incredibly, the Oscar favorite, Alfonso Cuaron’s 3D space drama Gravity lost out on the evening’s biggest award even though it did sweep a total of 7 awards by the ceremony’s end.

  1. The slavery drama 12 Years a Slave won the Academy Award for best picture, making history as the first movie from a black director to win the film industry’s highest honour in 86 years of the Oscars.
I am so tired to Hollywood trying to make me feel bad about slavery that happened over 150 years ago, but guess what I don’t as the great great great grandson of slave owners that was their decision. Hollywood is always trying to rewrite history, slavery right or wrong at that time was a way of life. Its over get over it Hollywood.

  2. im sure that was a big punch in the gut. can you imagine?
truth is though, im not qualified to make any predictions at all – as ive only seen about half the movies.

  3. I was very surprised as I felt that Gravity was the clear winner, just based on feedback and box office receipts alone!
