BOOM Upside My Head, Versatile Blogger Award!

20130411-190623

Whilst I was reeling from getting THREE nominations for the Epically Awesome Award for Epic Awesomeness, Dave over at  Last Road Reviews pummelled me upside the head with a Versatile Blogger Award.

Ouch! I didn’t see that one coming!

As with all awards in the Blogging verse, this one comes with rules. Since I’ve taken days to respond to Dave’s nomination (Sorry Dave) I’m going to expedite this via the “lazy man’s” way. I’m going to copy said rules from his post. Have I mentioned lately how lazy I am?

Versatile Blogger Award – Rules for those who wish to participate

1. In a post on your blog, nominate 10 fellow bloggers for The Versatile Blogger Award; and link to them.
2. In the same post, add the Versatile Blogger Award.
3. In the same post, thank the blogger who nominated you in a post with a link back to their blog.
4. In the same post, share 10 completely random pieces of information about yourself.
5. In the same post, include this set of rules.
6. Inform each nominated blogger of their nomination by posting a comment on each of their blogs.

My randomly selected nominees are:

  1. Claratsi Movie Review
  2. RobinsRealm Blog
  3. FOXXIECINNAMON’S Blog
  4. readful things blog
  5. Bad Horror, Good Times
  6. Roll on some movies!
  7. Film As We Know It
  8. Kevin’s Movies
  9. hypersonic55
  10. Reel Ex-Stream

My ten unknown (probably not by now though) facts are:

  1. I snore.
  2. I love golf but cannot afford to play it.
  3. I am just breaking into the world of freelance writing.
  4. I’m on the staff as a writer for web magazine Rogue Cinema which focusses on Independent film.
  5. I am a host for Tommorrow Comes Media by Seventh Star Press and my first event will be May 16th.
  6. I’m going to be acting in a film by Natasha Harmer  called Once Bitten, Twice Shy.
  7. I am writing short stories at the minute to become a (hopefully) published collection.
  8. The first novel I’m writing is going to be a western (cross genre).
  9. I have 7 plus scars on my body, most from surgery!
  10. I have quit smoking, but, now appear to be hooked on the bloody nicotine gum!

And that, as they say, is that. I’ll leave you now to enjoy your Sunday lunches, trips to the seaside and pints at the pub. But I’ll remind everybody that my choices, as always, are completely random and chosen from the lovely folks who follow my blog already. In my mind you are all deserving of an award…I’ll just have to think one up!

Thanks again Dave!

Cheers!
Cheers!

I’m a Versatile Blogger…Again!

versatileblogger11

Just when I thought I was through with dodging the award bullets, I got “zinged” with another one from my good friend Marilyn over at Serendipity. She has given me the Versatile Blogger award!

If you haven’t checked out her great blog, stop reading this and head on over via the link above. She has a great site and (like me) she posts a lot! She is a great photographer who shares her work willingly on her site and she asks a lot of pertinent questions. Not to mention that she is one of the most erudite blogs going.

And she and her husband Garry are amongst the few on the net that I consider great pals! Check her out…okay?

Now as with all the other awards that are flying about in the WordPress blogging verse, there are penalties, sorry; rules that must be adhered to, or at least you are supposed to. I tend to vary them a little, just because variety is the spice of life and (in case I’ve not mentioned it lately) because I’m lazy and a bit of a rebel.

I have to mention here that I love getting awards! Ever since I got a Best Supporting Actors Award in 1976 I’ve been hooked on getting any type of “special” recognition. I know, I could change my blog title to Ego’s are Me. It is a tiny personality flaw that I’m aware of and I’m trying to address it.

Okay??

So without further ado, here are the rules involved when you receive the Versatile Blogger Award:

*These have been copied shamelessly from Marilyn’s blog post. See! I told you I was lazy!*

These are the traditional rules for The Versatile Blogger Award:

  • Thank the person who gave you this award.
  • Include a link to their blog.
  • Next, name the bloggers to whom you would like to pass the award and send them a link to tell them you’ve selected them.
  • Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

So! I’ve thanked the person who nominated me! (Thanks again Marilyn!!!). I’ve included a link to their blog. Now I have to name the bloggers I’m nominating.

*Drumroll please*

And the nominees are:

I’ve only done 7 nominees (aka winners). The reason? Well, I’m not going to do the 7 “things about me” drill. So at least I’ve made an attempt at the rules by utilising the number seven. (Does anyone else hear the Sesame Street thing in their head saying, “Today is brought to you by the number seven?”)

What I’m going to do instead is post a picture of “moi” holding up my first coffee of the day (and amazingly it’s after I wrote this blog) and toasting not only Marilyn over at Serendipity and the nominees, but, everyone who follows my little blog!

Cheers, all the best!
Cheers, all the best!

I’ll also add a few more pictures from “yesteryear.”

And that’s me finished!! I’ll also take this time to thank all the folks who stop by, ‘like’ and follow my blog. You guys are the reason I keep forcing myself to sit down in front of my laptop and repeated strike the keys…and to write my blog posts.

You guys are the greatest!

The Vesatile Blogger and Blog of the Year 2012, Merry Christmas to Me!

I awoke this morning to find that I had been “blessed” twice by other bloggers. Firstly Kim over at Tranquil Dreams has given me The Versatile Blogger (Which I, of course, accepted. One can never get too many awards!) Then I found that Marilyn over at Serendipity put me up for the Blog of the Year 2012…again. *That gives me a 3rd star for my Blog of the Year award!*

Although to be honest I wasn’t really expecting to be here since so many folks seemed to give so much credence to the Mayan “prophesy” about the world’s demise yesterday. I guess I should have said I was triply blessed! But to get to the point, I owe a huge thank you to both ladies for thinking of me. I will be doing an extra blog-post to talk about the Blog of the Year 2012 3rd star shortly.

So thank you Kim for giving me this award. Of course like every other award in the blogging verse there is a “penalty” to be paid for accepting. I am kidding, honest! I don’t see these “rules” as a penalty; they are just part of a tradition that requires the recipient of the award to pass the favour on. In other words you’re meant to share the wealth. It is a great way to show folks that follow you (and that you follow) that you care.

I am not the greatest at reading the blogs I follow, I will admit that right up front (although I do try) I do not stop by as often as I should and like or comment on blogs. There! I said it; I feel much better now. I guess confession is good for you.

The rules for accepting are as follows:

  •  Display the award certificate on your website.
  • Announce your win with a post and include a link to whoever presented your award.
  • Present 15 awards to deserving bloggers.
  • Create a post linking to them and drop them a comment to tip them off.
  • Post 7 interesting facts about yourself.

The first two requirements have been done and the next one (which is the hardest) is what I’ll do now.

My nominees for The Versatile Blogger Award are (drum roll, please):

The above blogs are by no means complete. In fact the first one up is a clear case of nepotism in that my daughter Meg writes the blog. She has written several blog posts under “Much Ado About” on Tumblr and damn it she is versatile. So are the other folks that I’ve nominated. They are pretty much chosen in a random manner. Of course there are a few who are special (and you know who you are) that I would have picked anyway. I do apologise to all the other worthy folks who I did not pick.

Now for the last bit; the “seven interesting facts about yourself” and previously not known facts as well. So without further ado, here they are:

  1. I once climbed Mount Snowdon but had to stop just before the top due to bad weather.
  2. I don’t like pain.
  3. I used to write short stories and once wrote an entire 3 act play.
  4. The above mentioned pieces of literature have never been published.
  5. I used to write articles for the “base” newspaper when I was in the Air Force.
  6. I’ve done radio commercials and presented the odd radio program.
  7. The first radio commercial I ever recorded was when I was seventeen.

I will finish by thanking Kim and very shortly I will be notifying the folks I nominated for this award. I will now (since I finally figured out how to do it) put The Versatile Blogger Award on my blog wall. So thanks Kim!

Another Versatile Blogger Nomination??

Just when I thought it was safe to start blogging again, I got nominated by a person I nominated! So I owe a double thank you to Christopher, a self proclaimed blogging noob, over at . I also have a small confession to make, I am also a noob when it comes to WordPress! I’ve been blogging for about a year and a half, but most of that was on another site.

I also have another confession to make, I don’t have a list of ten folks to nominate. Having not been on WordPress that long, I don’t follow that many people yet. So I will be nominating a lot less than ten sites. I managed to nominate ten sites the first go around and that pretty much covered my little follow list!

So here is my list of nominees:

1. LKD

2. lesleycarter

3. alittlebirdtweets

4. mgedwards

Lord help me if I ever get tasked to nominate fifteen folks for anything!

I don’t know if there are any rules negating ‘re-nomination’ (I looked but could not find any) so I’m going to steam ahead and list the rules.

I also have to put the award in my post:

And last but definitely least another 10 amazing (not) facts about me:

1. I have a lot of  Native American blood on both sides of my family.

2. I sang as Dean Martin as part of my act for my high school talent show.

4. I got Honourable Mention in the same talent show.

5. For about ten years I was licensed to broadcast radio from ship to shore.

6.I once talked to actor Alfred Molina for a full five minutes before I realised who he was.

7. I once, very briefly, worked with Alexis Denisof of Angel and Buffy fame.

8. I was once in the same film as Christopher Lee.

9. When I was 17 I auditioned for the Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs) fifteen times before I got the part.

10. I did a television commercial in 1989 that was seen all over America and none of my family realised it was me.

And that, as they say, is that except to thank Christopher again for my re-nomination and to message the remaining folks I’ve nominated.

My New “Versatile” Blog-site.

I feel ridiculously pleased with my site’s new look. I should feel guilty about being so excited. I mean I  was pretty pleased with the way it used to look. Sorry ‘old look’ you’ve been replaced.

Like a child with a shiny new toy or a teenager with his first car, I can’t stop looking at it. I am sure that if I could, I’d figure out a way to take it to bed with me. I guess I could put my laptop on the other half of the bed…

Oddly enough, after I had changed my site’s appearance, I couldn’t use it.

I kept opening new posts and writing a title and then I would just set there looking at it. It sort of felt like a bad joke, you know the ones I mean.

“All dressed up and nowhere to go.”

“I can’t take you anywhere.”

“We bought you the best books, sent you to the best schools and whaddya do?”

All these flashed through my mind as I sat staring at the blank screen. Well that and, “Why’d ya change the damn thing if you’re not going to use it?”

did have lots to say. But every time I poised my fingers over the keyboard, every idea I had surged forward and got stuck in a bottle neck of jumbled thoughts.

I mean, here I had been nominated for The Versatile Blogger Award and I can’t get past the titles. Sheesh!

Versatile Blogger Award

I suppose that, just like getting a new car, I was afraid of metaphorically scratching it or denting it. The blogging version of backing into next door’s fence. Either that or I was so excited about the new look I couldn’t think past it.

Either way, I seem to be over that now as I can, at least, type some sort of drivel on the page.

Of course my problem could have nothing at all to do with the ‘new look’ it could just be because it’s bloody Monday.
